Muffin (aka what’s been keeping me busy lately)
Muffin, huh? What’s in it for me?
Well what’s in it for me is that I was fed up with trying to manage my budget. It was just too fiddly and awkward. I tried a bunch of products/tools but none of them fit me. I needed something “simple” and “flexible”. The best fit compromise was an Excel spreadsheet but I hated making any changes to it. It was inflexible and too much work to keep updated.
So I made Muffin. I made it “simple”, “easy to use”, “flexible” and (most importantly of all) I made it so the poor thing did all the hard work for me. Then one day I wondered “maybe I’m not the only one who could use some help?”. So that’s why I’m making Muffin available to anyone who needs a little help. And that, in a nutshell, is what’s in it for you. A simple, elegant, beautiful tool to help you manage your budget quickly and easily so that you get back to getting on with your life.
“Life’s too short for editing Excel formulae!”
Here’s how it works
- Muffin is web based. This means that you can access Muffin from any computer with an internet connection. Home, work, school or even your phone if it’s fancy enough.
- You tell Muffin about your income (paycheck, bonus, mysterious “other”) and your planned spending (bills, rent, gas etc) and you’ll see at a glance what kind of shape you’re in.
- But more than that, if you tell Muffin about your unplanned spending (”Damn those infomercials!”) you’ll see how that effects your budget. {See screen-shots below}
- What makes Muffin really useful is that it makes all this as simple and painless as possible. The tools I had used before either didn’t care about spending that was outside of my original budget or made it too difficult to bother with. Muffin cares if you care. And if you do care, Muffin takes the chore out of keeping your budget up-to-date and most importantly reflecting reality.
In the coming weeks, while I’m putting the finishing touches on getting Muffin to play nicely with others, I’ll share with you a couple of the other things that Muffin will do for you.
In the meanwhile…
