I like to make plans and I like to break them down into lists. Like I said in my previous post, getting things down on paper or TextEdit helps me get my head around it. Plus I’m quite good at forgetting ideas, especially the good ones. So here is my list of (some of) what I want to get done in 2008.
In no particular order.
- Record demos for all the “gifted” stuff. I’m running a little low on studio equipment so I’ll settle for just getting the dam things down on tape. For me that’s a major part of writing. I can’t get a full grip on a song unless I listen to it.
- Part of what I want to start doing is to make physical things. As a minor part of that I have some ideas for t-shirts I’d like to make and if they come out good, maybe see about selling some.
- I have a couple of book ideas (not design related) that I’d like to explore. I’d like to get one of them written this year and get it out into the world (maybe through lulu.com). I know it needs to be a physical book, not a .pdf. (See above)
- I probably want to migrate over to using ActionScript 3.0. I don’t want to do it while working on a Flash project so I’ll maybe have to wait for a really wet rainy miserable Sunday when I’ve got nothing better to do with my time. That last comment was a little unfair. I constantly flip flop from loving coding to hating it. From loving Flash to hating it. Today is one of the latter.
- I have some .psd’s that I want to make into prints. As in something I can frame and put up somewhere. I have serious doubts on whether I’d actually hang them up — I’m very anti-ego and this seems to reek of ego — but its more to do with actually having something to show for my work. Something physical I can notice out of the corner of my eye hanging in the living room that I can be proud of.  I find it hard to feel proud of a file sitting on my hard drive. Plus, if it’s sitting on my hard drive, I can still tweak and edit it. It’s never really done. If it comes out well, I might start offering prints on my site somewhere along with my t-shirts.
- I want to learn Cocoa, or at least start on that path in 2008. To help motivate and give me a focus while learning I’m going to build an app. A useful app. I won’t talk about the app itself because this app already exists (and is really REALLY good) and what I’m making is just for my consumption and as an aid in the learning process. But I will talk about how that learning process is going and perhaps talk about some lessons I learn the hard way — and what cool stuff Cocoa can do , etc.
- I also want to learn Ruby/Ruby on Rails but as of yet, I don’t have a purpose, a reason why. I don’t know what I’d do with it. I have a reason for wanting to learn Cocoa but it’s a long way off. All will come clear with time little one.
- I do have a few more cool things I’d like to do in 2008 but I won’t mention them yet because there’s a chance they won’t get made, or won’t get made in ‘08. But if they do get green lit and if they still warrant a mention, I’ll mention them.
- And if I get a few spare minutes here or there I’ll try to fit in some client work as well! More on that in later posts.
